The drake unit flying cycle
Here’s a first shot of the finished ingame Art-style I’m aiming for with Oberon’s Court.
Its a unity3D in-engine shot, made only with shaders created for IOS android devices.
Part of the challenge I put to myself is to see if one could design a game that looked modern and exciting without using textures, only shapes, silhouettes and geometry. This the outcome, its only 33K triangles with zero textures. The game itself is in pre-production so don’t expect it on IPAD really soon sadly.
Not sure If I’d like a full world, might go for something where tiles “fade in” around the view center.
did like that effect where there’s edges that are visible like in the old populous and such and the world is sort of created under your eyes
here’s a walk-cycle loop for one of the basic units, a HareKnight.
So this was quite close, but I felt it was just a landscape and didn’t show the tile based structure of the game.. It did find the technical way of how I wanted to create a landscape shown only as shapes with no textures only shapes.
So here’s the original concept 3D sketch I did, I liked the stylisation. But it was too rough and not very expressive as a game environment. The tiles did come out quite separate which i liked..
A failed take on the art-style, way to gamie and obvious. plus it had textures wich was not the objective.
A 3D weird render of oberon’ decided against it , too frank miller
